How it is calculated
Size = amount at risk ÷ (stop distance × value of one unit for 1 lot). The amount at risk is the chosen percentage of your balance; the value of one unit depends on the instrument: $10 per pip for 1 lot of a pair ending in /USD, $50 per point for one E-mini S&P 500 contract.
The size is rounded down to the instrument's step, 0.01 lot for forex and CFDs, 1 contract for futures: the actual risk, shown under the result, stays at or below the one you set.
Values are in dollars. If your account is in euros, divide the pip value by the EUR/USD rate. For a pair that does not end in USD, or a CFD whose contract size differs at your broker, pick “Other” and enter the value of one unit for 1 lot.

How many lots to risk 1%?
Divide 1% of your balance by your stop times the pip value. On a $10,000 account with a 20-pip stop on EUR/USD: $100 ÷ (20 × $10) = 0.5 lot.
What is a pip worth on EUR/USD?
$10 for 1 standard lot of 100,000 units, $1 for a mini lot and $0.10 for a micro lot, as on every pair ending in USD.
Why is the result rounded down?
Because a size rounded up would exceed the risk you set. The calculator shows the actual risk of the size it keeps.
What if the stop is too wide for one futures contract?
Contracts come whole: if the risk does not cover one contract at the stop you want, micro contracts (MES, MNQ, MGC), ten times smaller, let you keep the same stop.
